Demo Day Unattended Charging of an Electric Aircraft
Charging electric cars is commonplace nowadays, but in aviation, it is still far from obvious. Charging an electric aircraft without physical supervision raises all kinds of questions. To do this safely, technology can help. TULIPS partners Rotterdam The Hague Airport and the Netherlands Aerospace Centre (NLR) demonstrated their smart solution for unattended charging during a special Demo Day on 17 September. And so, the fire department joined when fake smoke was detected...

Schiphol Tests World's First Hydrogen Powered GPU
As part of the TULIPS Programme, Schiphol and KES, together with KLM, are conducting tests with the first-ever hydrogen GPU connected to an aircraft at the airport. The H2-GPU is a hydrogen-powered Ground Power Unit that supplies stationary aircraft at the gate with electricity, which is used for lighting and power in the cockpit. It was developed by Dynell and Zepp.solutions. Schiphol is the first airport in the world to have a working H2-GPU and to use it in its operations.

TLD joins TULIPS to develop Hydrogen Powered Tow Tractor
We are pleased to announce that TLD, a leading France-based Ground Support Equipment (GSE) supplier, has joined the TULIPS consortium. In collaboration with Ballard Power Systems, TLD is working on developing a hydrogen-powered tow tractor. This TULIPS project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from ground equipment, contributing to more sustainable airport operations.

Super Battery being tested at Schiphol: a world first
In a world exclusive, Schiphol is taking a major step toward energy storage and the further electrification of ground equipment with the testing of an Iron Flow Battery at the airport. The large battery, recently installed on the A/B apron, offers a reliable power supply for the charging of electrical equipment and thus relieves pressure on the grid. The test with the innovative battery is part of the TULIPS programme. TULIPS partners Volker Infra and KES are responsible for the management and use of the battery
