Spotlight on hydrogen GSE, our 2nd Progress Event in Oslo (sign up now!) and Circularity in Airports

UPDATE #6

Join us in Oslo for the 2nd TULIPS Progress Event

The TULIPS project invites you to its second Progress Event on 26 November 2025 in Oslo, hosted by Avinor. Building on the momentum from Turin, this hybrid gathering will spotlight the latest developments in sustainable airport innovation—from intermodal transport and future aircraft energy supply to SAF scale-up and circularity. Expect engaging presentations, hands-on workshops, and open dialogue. Whether you're shaping policy or operations, this is a chance to exchange insights and help accelerate the sector’s sustainability transition.

Schiphol Pilots Hydrogen GSE in Daily Airport Operations

Schiphol Airport is one of the first major international airports to deploy hydrogen-powered ground support equipment in daily ground handling. Featuring a TULIPS hydrogen-electric tow tractor, a TULIPS hydrogen refueling station on airside, and a prototype hydrogen pick-up truck, the pilot provides valuable insights into performance, refueling efficiency, and operational integration. As airports worldwide explore practical zero-emission solutions, Schiphol’s real-world testing demonstrates how hydrogen technology can complement existing approaches and contribute to cleaner, efficient airside operations.

Hydrogen Collaboration in Action at Schiphol

On 8 September 2025, TULIPS partners gathered at Schiphol Airport to showcase the power of collaboration and celebrate results in advancing hydrogen solutions for ground handling. From operators and suppliers to airports and regulators, the event highlighted how joint efforts, powered by EU funding, are overcoming real-world challenges. With shared insights on permitting, training, and infrastructure, the day underscored that meaningful progress towards zero-emission operations depends on working together across the aviation ecosystem.

Exploring Circularity in Airports: Micro-Conference Highlights

On March 6th , Schiphol and TULIPS welcomed fourteen airports, airlines and circular economy experts for a mini-conference on ‘Circularity in Airports’. This event focused on reducing and reusing cabin waste and waste streams from the terminal. Additionally, the reuse of construction materials was discussed. We need to move away from linear waste systems at airports, which cause more emissions.

TULIPS and Hydrogen Take Centre Stage at IGHC 2025

At IGHC 2025, TULIPS – Green Airports spotlighted hydrogen-powered ground support equipment (GSE) as a key enabler for airport decarbonisation. Experts from Fraunhofer IML, Schiphol, and TLD explored its technical readiness, integration challenges, and future potential. As airports seek reliable, low-emission solutions, hydrogen emerges as a promising complement to electric and biofuel technologies.

ALIGHT’s Final Conference and Toolbox: Five Years of Insights Now Available

On 2 October, TULIPS joined the final conference of our EU Green Deal sister project ALIGHT in Copenhagen. After five years of research and demonstrations, ALIGHT has launched its Replication Toolbox—a practical digital resource for airports working towards a sustainable future. The toolbox offers proven strategies, tools, and success stories on implementing new fuels, optimising stand layouts, and integrating renewable energy into daily operations. A valuable reference for anyone aiming to accelerate sustainability in aviation.
Check out the Replication Toolbox, and dive into the key lessons and solutions from five years of ALIGHT
