February 2023
Are there similarities between the EU Green Deal programmes for ports and airports? And if so, can we then learn from each other and share knowledge? These questions were the focus of a session on building bridges between EU programmes, organised by our sister project Stargate. Indeed, it’s a match! That answer became quickly apparent from the speed dating sessions and stimulating panel discussions.
EU Green Deal programmes joining forces
On 31 January 2023 Stargate invited representatives of the EU Green Deal programmes OLGA, MAGPIE, Pioneers and also TULIPS. On behalf of TULIPS, Denise Pronk and Benjamin Bouzon travelled to Brussels.
We are facing the same challenges
Christel Vandenhouten and Charlotte Verreydt of Stargate: ‘It was utterly interesting to get in touch with other airports and ports to enlarge our network and to identify opportunities for collaboration, both within and outside of the EU Green Deal. Since all of these projects are created within the same framework, we are facing the same challenges – but we might be tackling them in different ways.’
Great potential in closer cooperation between ports and airports
Ben Bouzon, TULIPS: ‘We already benefit from a successful collaboration between the airport projects, but today clearly showed that there is great potential in closer cooperation between ports and airports as well, particularly on hydrogen supply & distribution, master planning and intermodality.’
