Related TULIPS projects: Stargate

Stargate  – SusTainable AiRports, the Green heArT of Europe, is a sister project of TULIPS. Stargate is an ambitious project selected by the European Commission to prove that a more sustainable aviation is possible. Together with a diverse consortium of 21 partners, Brussels Airport takes the lead in the development, testing and deployment of innovative solutions to create the green airports and aviation of the future.

30 Stargate projects

Stargate is the industry’s clear response to climate emergency and aims at a further decarbonisation as well as the cooperation with local surroundings to improve the living quality and the stimulation of the modal shift. The plan includes over 30 specific projects, among which the promotion of Sustainable Aviation Fuels, electric ground handling materials and techniques to reduce aircraft engine run-up noise. Furthermore, the development of a digital twin will provide a virtual representation of the airport with real-time data to test, stimulate and modify all operations and innovative solutions.

Stargate cornerstone

A crucial cornerstone is the aim to share all actions undertaken and lessons learned across partners, other organisations and eventually beyond the scope and timespan of Stargate (2021-2026). Not only to create awareness, but also to serve as valuable input and groundwork for other initiatives and projects in the sustainability field. Ultimately, this value chain will improve the quality of life of European citizens and provide solid foundations for a sustainable future.
