Three inspiring days in Turin with TULIPS

October 2024

We had an incredible three days of meetings, sharing results, and learning from each other at Torino Airport and Politecnico di Torino. From 9 to 10 October, Turin was the venue for the TULIPS General Assembly, the TULIPS Progress Event on Accelerating Airports in the Clean Energy Transition and the 2nd Hydrogen Airports Conference.

Day 1: General Assembly and Deep Dive Sessions

On October 9th, we kicked off with our General Assembly and organised deep dive sessions for our External Advisory Board. The day included an exploration of Torino Airport’s sustainable initiatives, such as the Smart Airport Energy Hub Pilot Plant, which converts solar energy into hydrogen. Additionally, we visited a nearby site where biochar is being tested for CO2 capture, showcasing one of TULIPS’ innovative demonstrations.

Day 2: Progress Event on Green Energy Transition

The focus on October 10th was our Progress Event: Accelerating Airports in the Green Energy Transition, held at the beautiful Castello del Valentino of Politecnico di Torino. The event featured discussions on policy developments led by Politecnico, with contributions from representatives of EU DG RTD, ACI EUROPE, AZEA, and ENAC. The afternoon sessions highlighted preliminary results from TULIPS’ demonstrations on smart grids, heat storage, electric and hydrogen GPUs, related infrastructure solutions, and more.

Day 3: Hydrogen Airports Conference

We returned to Torino Airport on October 11th for the second Hydrogen Airports Conference, hosted by TULIPS in collaboration with ACI Europe and To70. The conference focused on long-term strategies and hydrogen pilot projects aimed at achieving zero-emission airports.

These three days in Turin were a testament to the power of collaboration and innovation in driving the green energy transition for airports. We look forward to continuing this journey together.
