TULIPS Progress Event in Oslo: Spotlight on Innovation and Sustainability

November 2025

From 24 to 26 November, TULIPS partner Avinor hosted the second TULIPS Progress Event in Oslo. This edition focused on projects that had not yet taken centre stage during the previous event in Torino – from digital solutions for international greener travel and circularity to modular charging and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The programme combined the Progress Event with deep-dive sessions led by Work Package (WP) leads, as well as the annual General Assembly and External Advisory Board meeting. The result? A wealth of knowledge, input, and inspiration.

Internal sessions 24/25 November: setting the scene

The day began with a warm welcome from Avinor’s Executive Vice President, who introduced the company and its role in Norwegian aviation. This was followed by updates from Demo WPs 1–7, sharing their latest progress, and from WPs 8–10, who outlined how TULIPS outcomes will be exploited further.

Parallel deep-dive workshops brought together TEAB members, Sister Airports, and Avinor representatives for in-depth discussions:

  • Session A: WP3 and WP7.1 – Airport Land Carbon Sequestration
  • Session B: WP4 and WP7.2 – Airside UFP Mitigation

Progress Event November 26 Highlights

The plenary session featured presentations by Olav Mosvold Larsen (VP Sustainability) of Avinor and Ingvald Erga (Environmental Manager).

  • Larsen provided insights into Avinor’s operations, sustainability ambitions, and the unique challenges of managing Norway’s regional airports.
  • Erga showcased innovative initiatives at Stavanger Airport, including on-site photovoltaic systems, in-terminal tomato farming for airport gastronomy, and Norway’s first electric flight between Stavanger and Bergen.

The afternoon continued with interactive workshops:

  • WP5 (SAF): Panel sessions on future developments
  • WP2 (Energy Supply of Future Aircraft) and WP1 (Intermodal Services): Focused discussions on mobility and modular charging
  • WP6 (Circular Airports): A full-day track dedicated to circular airports

Looking Ahead

The Oslo event demonstrated the strength of collaboration within TULIPS and the commitment to accelerating sustainable aviation. With fresh ideas and actionable insights, the consortium is ready to take the last steps towards finalising the TULIPS programme and delivering practical roadmaps for (European) airports on their way to zero emission, zero waste and more sustainable aviation.
