TULIPS Year 2025 in Review

January 2026

A Successful Third Demo Wave in 2025

2025 marked the third major demonstration wave for TULIPS with a number of demos being successfully executed, showcasing practical innovations that support more sustainable airport operations. Work Package 2 for instance demonstrated modular charging solutions during a live event in Oslo and Work Package 6 tested new approaches to improving passenger waste separation. Additionally Work Package 4 made major progress in hydrogen operations, including the testing of a hydrogen tow truck (at Schiphol) and the opening of a dedicated hydrogen refuelling station (at RTHA), whereas Work Package 3 advanced data analysis on integrated heat‑storage systems

International Engagement and Collaboration

The TULIPS consortium joined several leading aviation and sustainability events throughout the year, such as the Passenger Terminal Expo, the IATA Ground Handling Conference and the ACI Annual Sustainability Summit. Many of these appearances were carried out alongside our EU Green Deal sister projects. We also hosted our second TULIPS Progress Event, led by our partner Avinor in Oslo.

Programme Extension and New Demonstrations Ahead

The TULIPS programme has been extended until the end of 2026, giving us the opportunity to deepen our research, strengthen our results, and deliver more robust, quantifiable impact outcomes that support airport sustainability roadmaps.

Looking ahead, several exciting demos are planned for next year, including SAF initiatives, a hydrogen drone flight and testing the H2-GPU at RTHA.

Thank You

A warm thank you to everyone who contributed to these achievements. We look forward to continuing this journey with you in 2026 and delivering even greater progress together.
